Fostering - at it’s best
The Incredible Story of Izzy - Beth Conley
Izzy’s story began on May 1, 2022. YHT searcher Alyssa Upton was in Phoenix searching for a lost dog. There was a sighting they believe was the lost dog. The dog had been lying on this porch for two days. After one look at this poor dog, the YHT village went into action. Alyssa transported her to a temporary foster Mackenzie Dell. She was then transported to Prescott Animal Hospital for evaluation. She was full of milk but no puppies could be located. She had been attacked by another animal. She had old wounds full of infection. Her scapula shattered and with infection the only option was to amputate her leg. She was on antibiotics for a few days.
On May 4th, 2022 she was able to have surgery to remove damaged leg. I was following her story on Facebook knowing she’d need a home to recover. When they reached out looking for a medical foster I jumped at the opportunity to help this sweet girl and on May 9th we brought her home.
Izzy was so scared and unsure of anything. We had 7 other dogs in the house as well. She would growl at them whenever they passed her pen. We took her out alone for the first few days to build her confidence in her surroundings. Soon she began venturing out with the other dogs. She began playing with the dogs and running with the pack. She began eating and rough- housing with other dogs. She still had one more surgery which was to be spayed. That procedure was completed on June 1st.
Despite the traumas this poor baby went through she remained a loving little girl. Each day her confidence grew. Alyssa was here several times to hang out and bring Izzy gifts. She took a piece of every heart she crossed. Alyssa Upton had friends interested in sweet Izzy. June 5th we did a meet and greet. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love with Izzy. She was adopted by a sweet couple with another little dog. Izzy is now Elsa living a great life with her new family.
The thing I love most about fostering is seeing the transformation with the dogs. Without fosters the rescues could not help these poor dogs. On July 14th, Elsa came to stay with me for a few days. Hertransformation was amazing. She is completely healed up and healthy. She looks amazing!
